Paystack has opened an early-access product, Index, that lets people in Nigeria complete some payments by asking an AI agent instead of opening an app.
Index sits on Paystack Checkout and on Zap, Paystack’s consumer transfer product. At launch it can buy airtime and data, send money through Zap, and order food through Chowdeck. It works with ChatGPT, Claude, and OpenClaw. Invitations are limited.
The product comes out of TSG Labs, the venture studio inside The Stack Group, the holding company Paystack announced in January 2026. The group also holds Zap and Paystack Microfinance Bank.
Paystack has been widening the surface around its original merchant tools: Zap in March 2025, an AI pass over the merchant dashboard, a small-business bundle, Capitec Pay in South Africa, Pesalink in Kenya, and an integration with Flowcart. Index is the first of those moves that puts an agent, not a person, at the checkout.
The company has said it does not expect meaningful volume for at least a year. That is the right pace. An agent that can spend money is only useful if the merchant, the limit, and the receipt are boringly reliable. Anchor, another Nigerian infrastructure company, has put out an MCP server so agents can call its APIs. The rails are being built before the habit exists.
